• Venus’ Manifesto

“Last year, God opened my mouth and told me to never be silent again. Sucks for ya’ll because now a girl can’t stop yapping on.”

    -Sunshine

This poem is simply put, the darkest poem I have written so far. And, I wish I wrote it sooner. When you are angry, transform it into passion. That dark cloud around your space will disapate just as soon as it invaded. Its also the hottest day of the year, so a lady is fed up!

    Venus’ Manifesto

Kill the man that is in your mind

Kill the man that held your head low instead of high

Kill the man who told you dreams were a crime

Kill the man who caused the tears instead of making them dry

Being unknown is far worse than being dead

Kill the man that is in your head

    This should have been said

Kill the man that is in your head

It will keep the brain worms fed

Kill the man that is in your head

Being unknown is far worse than being dead…

    Kill em’ all…

(Currently awaiting the funny looks from family. I am alright, just needed to get some things off my brain.)

  • A Woman, Unearthed From The Stone

Hey Alexa, play I’ll Be Around, by the Spinners.

Women are natural creators, and I’ve come to rationalize that the creative processes of women are very much in tune with the reproductive process that we possess. When a woman creates, it is a response to a cause. If pleased or pained, the response will radiate outwards back towards the world. It might sound strange that I, someone who is not a mother, and has a wavering desire to become one, associate art to motherhood. Simply, motherhood is not confined to a human baby. Creations, passions, endeavors and contributions all are a woman’s offspring; an extension of herself. Which, she loves with all of her soul.

Over the past month, I have been taking poetry more seriously. Perhaps because National Poetry Month is coming, perhaps because I want to start submitting my poetry to contests, or perhaps, I owe it to my God and myself to do so. Yes, I like that one a lot. Here is my latest poem, Sticks and Stones:

    Sticks and Stones

When you got your heartbroken the last time, you ran to me

With open arms, I caressed your soul

As a father should for his daughter when she scrapes her knee

But like all little girls, they only see the end of the road

Ignoring all of the thorns, sticks, and stones

That guy, while alive, is a mere illusion to the eyes

I can’t help but sigh when I see life pass you by

Again, I will be here when you once more cry

Simply because, I love you for all time!
