This a parable I wrote based on the Bible verse that gives this post its title, while also being my first completed work outside of poetry. (I have some fable-like poetry but this is the first to be in this format). I really want to thank the God Of My Life for where I am today. Without him, I wouldn’t be able to write my own story, or uncover the real history, or discover my glory.
Who are you to judge another one of the Lord’s servants?
The Parable of the Father and His Sons:
On a warm day, the Lord gathered all the children He could find and told them a tale of a father and his sons. Here is the story as the Lord told it:
There was a father who worked the fields. He had two sons, one older, the other younger. When the eldest son first began to walk the earth, he stepped as if flowers bloomed at his feet. The father was very proud of his first-born son.
When the younger son began to walk the earth, he stepped as if thorns had sprung up to pinch his feet. He would fall a lot, but the father was proud of his second-born son the same way as he was proud of his first-born son.
The eldest son grew to be jealous of his younger brother. He felt that he earned all the father’s praises since he walked with grace very early and his brother did not.
One blessed morning, the father was watching his younger son try to walk. The eldest son came to his father and said:
“Look, he falls to his knees yet again like a newborn calf. He deserves no praise. I walked with grace because my feet were strong, and my legs were mighty. I can stand beside you, my father, and command the fields when you are no longer able too.”
The father became terribly angry at these words and scolded his first-born son.
“Who are you to judge your brother when you both come from me? Who are you to tell me to see one when my eyes see all? Who are you to walk with such grace when your heart holds none? I praise your brother because no matter how many times he falls, each time the sun rises, he has risen to try again. Your judgement stems from the pit of your sorrowful soul. Your brother wants to walk like you, yet you diminish his works. When I am no longer able to command the fields, you and your brother will rule together as equals because I blessed you both the same.”
The eldest son grew saddened, he had realized the error of his judgement. The next time the sun rose into the sky, when the younger son would try again to walk gracefully, the eldest son stood beside his brother and gave him encouragement along the stride. Sure enough, the youngest son began walking as if petals were tickling his feet.
The father was joyed at what he saw. He loved his sons very much. They will rule the fields as one, because they are his sons.
When the Lord had finished his story, He told the children:
“Your Father, My Father, Our Father, loves us all the same. Look out for your brother with the same eyes God bestows on you. Grace only matters in your hearts!”
As the children grew to have children of their own, they would pass this story on through their generations.
